Call Today: Urge Congress to Increase 21st CCLC Funding
Dear Afterschool Advocates,
This is a reminder to please call your U.S. Representative TODAY and urge them to sign the Castle/Kildee Dear Colleague letter currently in circulation. Thus far, the following Members have signed: Castle, Cleaver, Ehlers, Grijalva, Hodes, Kildee, Loebsack, McNerney, Brad Miller, Pomeroy, Sablan, Stark, Titus and Wu. The Dear Colleague letter was generated in anticipation of upcoming budget deliberations and will be sent to the House Appropriations Committee requesting a “significant increase in funding for 21st Century Community Learning Centers (21st CCLC) in the fiscal year 2010 appropriations bill.”
Please call your Representative today and tell them:
Afterschool is a critical community resource that keeps kids safe, provides educational enrichment, helps working families and better prepares our future workforce.
I urge you to sign on to the Kildee/Castle Dear Colleague letter that supports an increase in funding to 21st CCLC.
Severe shortages in state and local funding are forcing afterschool programs across the nation to decrease services, increase parent fees or close their doors altogether – making the federal investment more critical than ever.
Please show your support for children and working families by signing on to this letter.
In order to send a strong message to appropriators that afterschool is priority we need to ensure that a high number of members sign on to this letter.
