For those teachers and administrators that I have spoken to over the last several weeks, I would like to thank you for all of your feedback on the grant program and I wish you all the best in your applications. I hope that I have been able to provide as much assistance to you in your technology needs as you have to me in providing critical feedback that will decide how this program will continue in the future.
However, the grant program is not over yet! For those who have not been able to get involved yet please know it is not too late and there will be another deadline announced shortly! (I will post this as soon as possible)
After reading your posts and speaking with some of you personally I want to know what you all feel that is missing in K-12 educational technology. What would you like to see your children using everyday?
Each year, approximately 100 K-12 school districts in the United States participate in the Grant Program.
Since 2003, the CampusEAI Consortium has successfull helped more than 250 K-12 and higher ed organizations implement their myCampus portal solutions including Portland Public Schools, Northeast Ohio Network for Educational Technology (NEOnet) representing 26 school districts including Akron City Schools, Brunswick City Schools, Cuyahoga Falls City Schools, Kent City School District, St. Ambrose School and Twinsburg City School District.
They're using ePortfolio, blogs, wikis, targeted alerts, targeted announcements, document libraries, federated instant messenger, polls and a top-notch QuichLauch Single-Sign-On technology to at one time authenticate into such systems as your Student Information System, E-mail, and Learning Management System - displaying this data in a dashboard view for ease of use all hosted in our private cloud.
We take common technology such as mobile devices and use them as educational tools of the trade, making all of our content accessible to the mobile device that every tech-savvy student has these days. With Grades display to parents upon authentication, is it enough? Is there something we're missing? Please - I want to hear from you! What do you want out of your myCampus K-12 portal?
We are eRate compliant and have a SPIN number - is there a way to make this a greater benefit or use this standing in conjunction with the Grant to make this more beneficial for your school district?
As I did last year, I'd like to get some feedback to ensure that the grant program is designed to meet the current needs of K-12 educators like you. I'd appreciate any and all feedback so I can make the next application even better than before.
Some sample questions would be:
1. Does your school have a portal or web content management solution?
2. Is your school evaluating a portal or web content management solution in FY 2011? (Y/N)
3. If yes, what would be your ideal implementation (Paint me a picture - what would it look like, what's your timeline)
4. Knowing we're a non-profit, how do you evaluate whether or not you choose to apply for a grant?
