As the mentoring teacher, Hector Ibarra will receive a trip to the next NSTA National Conference, a flip camera, a chance to present his winning project before a panel of environmental experts, a Discovery Adventure Trip, membership to NSTA, a subscription to Discovery Education Science, and a Siemens We Can Change the World Challenge green prize pack.
The Siemens We Can Change the World Challenge invited groups of middle school students and their teachers to identify an environmental issue in their communities and create a green solution, utilizing online curriculum tools from Discovery Education. Team Dead Weight's project identified the dangers of vehicular lead wheel weights in an effort to remove the hazardous material from the tire industry. Environmental experts and science educators served as judges to select the top projects.
